I loved this series of my son playing chess so much I had to share. He has the greatest expressions!

Kai is studying this move very closely.

planning the moveIn Kai’s opinion, Matt’s move was a bit below the belt.

Our Thanksgiving

Over Thanksgiving, we got to warm up in Dallas to be with Matt’s family for the holiday. We had a wonderful time there and enjoyed seeing fall again. While there, we did a quick portrait session for Matt’s brother Adam and his family. It was a little different being in a place where there were no mountains in the background, but those gorgeous yellow and green trees really made up for it!!! fall-family-portrait,-colorado-photographersAva-leading-lines-fallnica-clos-up-black-and-whitefamily-candid-park-fallsisters,-black-and-white,-portrait-photographyfamily-portrait-pacione-texas

Getting the Smile

When Matt and I photograph portraits, I am the main person behind the camera, but almost always, Matt is with me holding reflector, and most importantly, getting the smile. I call him “the kid charmer” because he has a unique gift for being able to warm the coldest shoulders and pull out the shyest kids form behind legs. So, naturally, I had to share this picture taken of him at a family reunion this summer (photo by Peter Schwepker), trying to help my grandpa “get the smile” from our own children.

Don’t worry, he doesn’t normally look this funny.matt-and-grandpa
